The Splendor of Falling Flowers is a full-length novel set in Shanghai. Centered on protagonist Cheng Jinheng's career journey-marked by initial setbacks, eventual success, and subsequent twists-alongside his tumultuous romantic experiences, the story reflects the author's contemplations on life, human existence, and societal development. The underlying theme of this book is that even if life is a journey against the current, the path holds both hardships and beauty. Even when we feel life has wronged us, we must not let the flame of love die within our hearts. We cannot abandon our ideals simply because the odds of achieving them seem slim. For we firmly believe that persistence will eventually yield results-if not now, then someday.Beyond the male protagonist, the novel features Zheng Ruoxi, a female protagonist who returned from studying abroad; Liu Jialing, the male protagonist Cheng Jinheng's worldly and confused wife; Zheng Ruoyu, Zheng Ruoxi's brother; Tang Wangyao, Zheng Ruoyu's childhood friend and business partner; and characters woven into the narrative like a faint thread: Zheng Ruoxi's father, retired professor Zheng Xiuzhi; her mother, obstetrician-gynecologist Shen Panjuan, who continues to contribute her expertise; Zheng Ruyu's stay-at-home wife Ni Yaqin, his love interest dance instructor Liu Qingqing, Cheng Jinheng's family, and the owner of the hometown eatery nicknamed "e;Little Cabbage,"e; among others. Every character in this novel is an ordinary person we might encounter in daily life. Their work, lives, and relationships embody and reflect the enterprising spirit, tolerance, magnanimity, and elegance of Shanghai. Yet, the nuanced portrayals also reveal the hidden disappointments, anxieties, and struggles common to ordinary individuals in society.
