Takashi has spent months moving through life without wanting anything enough to care. Then a few seconds of television change that. Kaori, the magnetic vocalist of an unfamiliar rock band, becomes the focus of an obsession he mistakes for purpose. To reach her, Takashi revives old contacts and stages an ambitious underground concert. But as the plan succeeds, the fantasy begins to collapse. Drawn into the lives of Kaori, Aome, and the musicians around them, he is forced to confront the difference between desire and intimacy, control and connection, and the dangerous ease with which another person can become an answer to one's own emptiness. Set against clubs, rehearsal rooms, and late-night streets, Melodies in Delirium is a psychological novel about obsession, projection, and what remains when the object of desire becomes real. Takeri Katsuhiro constructs an intimate novel in which artistic creation and emotional experience reflect one another without offering perfect answers.
