Open Mystery

Every seeker wants to know what is behind the last door. One father has a single night to find out.Rev. Wade Calloway has climbed the Masonic winding stair so many times he could do it in the dark. Then a bookseller he once condemned from the pulpit hands him a black workbook stamped with that same staircase. It belongs to his son.Jonah Calloway is twenty-four, a welder and a Master Mason who found the lodge beautiful and its answers thin. For eight months he has been climbing the Middle Chamber, a secret school founded by a brilliant former priest who believes the churches traded mystery for information. There are seven steps, each set at a landmark in St. Joseph, Missouri, and each riddle hides a number. The last step is an all-night vigil "e;in the interior of the earth,"e; and it begins tomorrow, with a storm bearing down and last year's initiate still unable to walk away from what happened to him there.Wade has one day to climb a stair built so that no one can rush it. A doorkeeper with an old grudge against Wade's lodge shadows every step. His wife has kept a secret of her own for two years. And the most dangerous thing waiting at the top may be the question Wade burned out of his son's hands eight years ago.The Open Mystery is a suspense novel of faith and fatherhood. It takes seriously why so many people are drawn to hidden wisdom, gradual revelation, and the belonging of the initiated. It ends with an answer the seekers never expected: the greatest mystery was never meant to be whispered. It was meant to be proclaimed. From Dr. Douglas Reece and Stonecutter Ministries, a novel for Christian Masons, pastors, spiritual seekers, and anyone who has ever stood before a closed door and wondered.
