Despite being treated as separate subjects in traditional Nigerian secondary schools, literature and English are deeply interconnected. This book highlights the need to merge these disciplines to enhance students' understanding and proficiency.We examine how literary teachers often focus on the socio-cultural, economic, and religious meanings of texts, while linguistic elements receive less attention. This imbalance can lead to students excelling in literary analysis but struggling with English language skills. Our book argues for a symbiotic relationship between literature and language, suggesting integrated teaching approaches to improve education and learning outcomes.Through practical suggestions, we aim to address the poor academic performance observed at secondary and tertiary levels in Nigeria. By fostering a comprehensive understanding of both literature and language, students can achieve greater proficiency and success.
