The fire crackled, the music played, and a new group of rebels partied in the middle of the woods, on the edge of town, in each other's arms, on top of the world. It might have gone on until sunrise . . .

It's the last week of summer before the start of Sedona's junior year. She ventures into the woods one night, excited to experience her first kiss. Instead, the evening takes a tragic turn: A friend is hurt, and Sedona has to accept that she might not have what it takes to join the police force like her dad. When she finds out someone caused more harm than she'd realized, she can't help but investigate. In the process, Sedona discovers her gift for selective telepathy and senses her friend Brinique's pregnancy.

Sedona can't change what happened, but if she can gather the evidence, she won't be the only one with a shot at a career in justice.

With more than her future at stake, Sedona has to decide how much she'll confide in her friends, how far she'll go to uncover the truth . . . and who ultimately deserves protection.
