Alan Frost - Beyond Half Past Seven is the 2nd book in the series. It is a dark British crime thriller following DCI Alan Frost as he attempts to move forward after the disturbing events of the previous investigation. But when a seemingly isolated murder lands on his desk, Frost and his team quickly discover that the case contains unsettling connections to questions they thought had already been buried.

The investigation begins with the death of a retired architect. The crime scene is unusually controlled: little appears disturbed, nothing obvious has been taken, and evidence suggests the victim may have known that he was in danger. Hidden documents, missing records and carefully concealed clues soon convince Frost that this is more than a conventional murder investigation.

Working alongside Charlotte Monroe, Frost begins tracing the victim's past. Their enquiries lead them through forgotten buildings, historical architectural projects and parts of London that seem to have disappeared from official records. Information that should exist has vanished; other records appear to have been altered. The deeper the detectives investigate, the more difficult it becomes to distinguish an administrative mistake from deliberate manipulation.

The case gradually reconnects with the mystery surrounding Half Past Seven. What once appeared to be the signature of a particular series of crimes begins to suggest something much larger. Frost encounters evidence of hidden archives, restricted infrastructure and a secretive system operating behind legitimate institutions. The conspiracy does not simply conceal individual crimes-it appears capable of influencing what evidence survives and therefore what future investigators are able to discover.

For Frost, the investigation becomes increasingly personal. Documents connected to his own family raise uncomfortable questions about his past and about how much of his life has really been shaped by coincidence. His instinct is to trust physical evidence rather than convenient explanations, but that becomes increasingly difficult when he discovers that records, credentials and even voices can potentially be manipulated.

Charlotte faces similar questions about loyalty, choice and institutional authority. Together, she and Frost must investigate an organisation that appears to understand police procedure as well as they do-and may even be anticipating their decisions.

At its heart, Beyond Half Past Seven is about the ownership of truth. It asks what happens when the institutions responsible for preserving evidence also possess the power to suppress it. If historical records can be edited, destroyed or selectively preserved, who gets to decide what becomes the truth?

The novel combines murder investigation, historical mystery, hidden London, police conspiracy and psychological suspense, while expanding the mythology established in the first Alan Frost story. Rather than simply revisiting the Half Past Seven case, it reveals that the earlier mystery may have been only one part of something far older and more extensive.

The result is a conspiracy thriller in which Frost isn't merely trying to discover who committed a crime-he is trying to determine whether the evidence he has trusted throughout his career can still be trusted at all.
