I am the primary caregiver for my wife Catherine, who has been living with Alzheimer's disease for several years. From the very first signs of the illness in 2021 until today, I have kept a precise daily journal, recording the gradual changes in our life together as we face this ordeal side by side.
This testimony seeks to understand why this disease strikes, why it appears without warning, and why it is so difficult to confront. It raises the questions that inevitably arise: how do we fight Alzheimer's, how do we resist it, and how do we live with a disease that slowly transforms the person we love?
But above all, this book asks the most painful and hopeful question at the same time: how can this disease be treated, and how can we avoid feeling that the fight is lost before it has even begun?
I decided to turn this lived experience into a book that remains faithful to what we go through every day, without dramatizing, but without hiding anything either. The words are honest and direct, because this is how our reality is.
My hope is that this testimony may be useful to other caregivers, to families, to professionals, and even to researchers-anyone who wishes to better understand what Alzheimer's truly means in everyday life, and to find ways to improve the quality of life for both the person affected and the one who accompanies them
