Doctor Sam Richards has a dream. Brought up on a ranch, he is an unlikely candidate to study medicine and even more to become a successful country doctor in a small rural town. He wants to continue professional training as a psychiatrist in a program whose underlying philosophy of treatment involves understanding human behavior and emotions. He is not interested in the treatment of symptoms with medications and invasive techniques like Electric Shock Treatment. Will circumstances deny him that path?

Another obstacle to his dream is his wife, a young nurse who also barrel races in local rodeos. Her dream is different and interferes with his.
