Hazel is a young man living on Earth. He works a boring warehouse job and lives with his family to save money. However, he yearns for more. Hazel leaves his comfortable life on Earth to participate in the Mars Colonization Initiative. Along the way, he forms a relationship with a misplaced scientist named Riley, who was not supposed to be with his colonist cohort.

As they settle in on Mars, they realize that not all is as it seems. Late-night activities by the guards on the colony raise concerns in Hazel's mind. Additionally, Riley's research reveals anomalous atmospheric readings coming from the north side of Mars. After taking a rover out on an excursion on the Martian surface, Hazel and Riley discover something they weren't supposed to find.

As Hazel uncovers more about Mars and the organization that brought him there, he must learn to survive on this new planet. Will he be able to grow into the man he could be, or be crushed by the forces of the red planet? Divergent Point: Emergence is the first installment in this world.
