DŌMâh: The Offering
Book One of GAR'ESH: The Hidden World
The site was never abandoned.
It was sealed.
Beneath South Garamesh, the earth opens into corridors that resist time, chambers that refuse decay, and inscriptions that will not remain fixed. The Institute names it a discovery. The markings carved into the stone tell a different story.
Containment.
As the excavation descends, surface laws begin to loosen. Light falters. Distances distort. Passages return travelers to places they have already passed. The stone vibrates under the hand, not with instability, but with memory.
Something lurking in the depths below is awake.
Persephone Hale has an unusual connection to ancient stone and inscriptions. They shift in response to her presence, aligning as if answering a signal carried in her blood. What the others catalogue as dead language presses against her-dense, intimate, alive.
The chamber marked DŌMâh is not a threshold.
It is a requirement.
Once breached, the site ceases to be passive. Shadows move where light should hold. Shapes appear and withdraw before they can be named. Members of the team vanish without resistance, without sound, as though the tunnels themselves are a labyrinth.
Aboveground, the world continues untouched.
Below, something ancient begins to move -its presence tightening the air, constricting space, folding the living inward.
DŌMâh: The Offering initiates GAR'ESH: The Hidden World.
In KAI'RON: The Gathering, the watchers draw nearer, the patterns resolve, and the forces that kept Garamesh hidden begin to surface.
Some structures were never meant to open.
Some offerings are not voluntary.
And once the earth accepts a name,
it does not release it.
