This comprehensive biography of Eduardo Rene Chibas (1907-1951) traces the life and times of an idol of Cuba's youth during the late 1940s and early 1950s. A man whose unconditional supporters included Fidel Castro, Chibas built his political career in large measure as a defender of Cuba's 1940 constitution, which he had helped craft. In contrast to many of his political competitors, Chibas used charismatic leadership to build support for democratic institutions, the rule of law, and honesty in politics.
