Das Buch ist konzipiert für den Einsteiger, der sich einen ersten Überblick über das Gebiet der elektrischen Maschinen und Antriebe verschaffen will. Ausgehend von einer kurzen Zusammenfassung der für das Verständnis elektrischer Maschinen notwendigen physikalischen Gesetze und elektrotechnischen Methoden vermittelt das Buch unter Beschränkung auf das Wesentliche ein grundlegendes Verständnis des Aufbaus und der Funktionsweise elektrischer Maschinen wie Transformator, Asynchron- und Gleichstrommaschine. Auf der Basis der komplexen Zeiger werden elektrische Ersatzschaltbilder für die Maschinen entwickelt, wobei die mathematischen Zusammenhänge möglichst einfach gehalten werden. Hinweise auf die Anwendungsgebiete runden die technischen Ausführungen ab. Anhand von Übungsbeispielen mit ausführlich kommentierten Lösungen werden die grundlegenden Berechnungsmethoden bei elektrischen Maschinen und Antrieben dargelegt.
