Book 4: The Trials of the Threefold Path With Queen Nzinga of Matamba and Ndongo
In the kingdom of Emure, triplet sisters are about to discover that they are far more than they ever imagined.
Raised by their devoted father after the death of their mother, the Eta Oba (the Royal Triplets - an honorary title given to them at birth) stand on the edge of womanhood, seeking answers about who they are meant to become. What they receive instead is an impossible invitation: a scroll, a library lost in time, and a journey through the centuries to meet the legendary queens of Africa.
From the courts of Queen Makeda of Sheba to the battlefields of Amanirenas of Kush, and the sacrifice of Queen Pokou at the Comoé River, the sisters sit at the feet of the bravest women history has ever known.
But this is not just a quest for wisdom. It is a quest for identity.
In Books 1 and 2, the sisters learned to seek wisdom beyond themselves. Queen Makeda showed them that greatness begins with unshakable belief in a vision, and Queen Amanirenas taught them to hold their power with restraint. Armed with ancient scrolls and the knowledge of the Great Library of Timbuktu, they grew in confidence. Yet they still leaned on their own gifts: Tade on her intellect, Tode on her healing hands, Tide on her warrior's instincts. They were drawing closer to Eledua - but still from a distance.
Book 3 changes everything. Beside the rushing waters of the Comoé River, the sisters witness Queen Pokou make the most devastating sacrifice a mother can make - and suddenly, the cost of love becomes real. The High Priest steps out of the shadows to reveal himself fully, and the girls are confronted with a question that no scroll can answer: will they accept that they were loved and chosen before they ever drew breath?
In Book 4, the sisters face their greatest challenge yet: each other. A fierce argument tears the triplets apart, and they are sent them on separate trials: through fire, water, and earth. Alone for the first time, each sister must reckon with the lies she has believed about herself and come face to face with the Advocate in a way she never could when hidden behind her sisters. Queen Nzinga of Matamba awaits them on the other side, a warrior-queen who has already walked the path they are just beginning. She will teach them their first hard virtue: patience, but not the quiet, passive kind.
Tide's Trial deposits her alone in 1640s Angola, amid Queen Nzinga's highland camp. Rescuing a toddler she discovers in a burned village, she encounters the One who names her wound. Queen Nzinga confirms this lesson, having learned it herself decades earlier.
Tode's Trial places her beside a grieving widow. Tode sits with her in silence, resisting every instinct to reassure or fix. At the village well, she meets One who names her wound. Walking north, she carries the word daughter with new understanding.
Tade's Trial strips away her most foundational tool. Joining a column of refugees, Tade admits to the One with the scarred hands that a wrong choice would once have meant she was defective. Her wound is named by the One whose hand she chooses to take.
Reunited at Nzinga's camp, the sisters discover they each met the same Person on a different road, each addressing a different shape of the same wound. Together, they recognize the harder truth: they had been substitutes for each other for what each needed to find in the Father. Their bond, though strained by the unfamiliar fracture, holds.
They return home in a single beam of light.
The adventure continues for Eta Oba.
Twelve queens. Nine virtues. One extraordinary journey home.
For every girl who has ever wondered who she is, and every young reader ready to discover where real power comes from.
