On the wild prairies of the Dakota Territory, Faith de Lambert and her family homestead near the town of LaSalle. Life is difficult, but, through their faith, they learn to coexist with the native people and to endure the hardships of pioneer life. It is an exciting time to live in the territory, as it will soon be divided into two states-North Dakota and South Dakota. Faith anticipates the future with hopes and dreams, especially when she thinks of John, the handsome homesteader who moved to the territory not long ago. Her teaching duties at the small schoolhouse bring her continual joy. But it's not until Christmas Eve that she receives a special surprise-an offer of marriage.
