"Game Over - A Marriage of Madness and Lies." Is a satirical memoir of a relationship like no other. I'm the madness part - at the time my diagnosis was Bipolar I; my ex husband was a con artist who had few skills and talents except lying, reactive abuse and gaslighting. Which sounds like a visit to the "Downer Department" but isn't.
It's written from my gods perspective - as I found that the best way to make it humorous enough to swallow the hard parts. And how I received the complaint it was too funny for the subject, which I took as a compliment. The book does delve into some dark dynamics. But it also highlights the positive, gently teaches how the tricks work, and warns how to avoid my mistakes. I even unravel how gaslighting works. I know, as I was already mentally ill, that aspect should be miserable. But it's far from! It worked all of once, and then was an absurd trail to the truth! Wait till you get to an alternative name for Alternative Facts!
While serious in subject, success and humor ring through. The grim is peppered with relief; the ridiculous is on display, and the perpetrator gets ground to dust and left in it! Who doesn't want to see that? Particularly since you so rarely get to in true stories.
If you've ever enjoyed any book, at all, about someone overcoming intense obstacles despite what seems to be impossible odds? Then you should read this one. It is the light bursting through the dark. And by the end? Sets the foundation for the hope we all need.
And if you're really curious. Sylvanna Devlin is me and this is my origin story.
