God is the Source. Grace is received. Transformation is wrought.

In the shifting streets, offices, banks, and family estates of 1949-1950 Shanghai, twelve historical parables follow imagined lives whose possessions, plans, identities, and securities are being tested while three ancient patriarchs quietly provide the pattern.

Abraham reveals God as the Source and Originator, calling the believer away from self-begun effort and into dependence upon what begins in Him. Isaac reveals inheritance, promise, and the gifts of grace that cannot be manufactured, only received. Jacob reveals the long discipline by which the natural man is touched, weakened, and gradually transformed into material fit for God's building.

These stories move through waiting, loss, delay, grace, discipline, and the painful surrender of self-reliance. Again and again, the characters discover that spiritual growth is not produced by striving harder, nor is maturity formed simply by receiving blessings. What God gives must also be wrought into the person through time, testing, and His patient dealings.

The question is not merely what we can accomplish for God, but what kind of material we are becoming in His hands.

Will we merely work for God-or allow Him to form in us material worthy of His building?
