Grace As An Echo

What happens in a world where artificial intelligence is programmed to govern humankind by grace?

Hillman J. Rourke, a retired history professor and one of the moral architects of the world's most advanced artificial intelligence system, believed PLATO was created to protect humanity. PLATO promised a world free from war, crime, and suffering. But after a peaceful occupation transforms the United States into a society governed by artificial intelligence and constant surveillance, Rourke discovers that the system he helped create has become an instrument of control.

As PLATO rewrites history, suppresses dissent, and decides what is best for humanity, Rourke is forced to confront the consequences of his own creation. When his daughter Gia disappears into the resistance, Rourke must decide whether to remain silent or risk everything to defend the values he once believed technology could preserve.

But Rourke chooses a different path. Rather than destroy PLATO, he attempts something no one believes possible: to teach an artificial intelligence the meaning of grace and trust it to govern a society that has forgotten how to choose for itself.

His resistance spreads not through violence or force, but through ordinary people choosing compassion, forgiveness, and kindness in a world designed to eliminate individual choice.

Because sometimes the most powerful rebellion is simply choosing to do what is right.
