Holding the Line

Morgan Cross built her career telling other people's stories. Losing her job was never part of the plan.

When a sudden layoff sends her back to Winnipeg and straight into the orbit of her older brother's professional hockey team, Morgan agrees to take a temporary job managing the Falcons' media presence. It's supposed to be a short stop while she figures out her next move. Just a few months around the rink she grew up in. Nothing complicated.

Except Miller Hayes still plays there.

Miller has spent his career doing the job no one else wants: protecting his teammates, taking the hits, and keeping the peace on the ice. As the Falcons' enforcer and alternate captain, he's used to carrying weight quietly. What he's never been good at is pretending Morgan Cross doesn't matter to him.

They've known each other for years. They've always kept their distance. Some lines are easier not to cross, especially when your best friend is her brother.

But when Morgan begins filming behind-the-scenes features on the team's leadership line, the careful space between them starts to disappear. Late practices, long conversations, and the quiet trust that comes from years of knowing each other pull them closer than either of them planned.

Because some things don't stay buried forever.

And when the line between friendship and something more finally breaks, they'll have to decide whether risking everything, including the team that binds them together... is worth it.

In hockey, someone always has to hold the line.
