Clementine Killham has always wanted to write a murder mystery that lands her on the New York Times Best Sellers List. But, after a few failed novels and another on the way, she decides to take a break from writing to spend time with her grandmother in Sunnybreak, North Carolina. While her days spent baking and crocheting with Nan are quiet and peaceful, something she's come to crave over the last several years, she can't help but notice the insatiable itch to get back in front of a keyboard.

One night while reading in bed, Nan tucked away next door, Clementine hears what she thinks is a scream, but quickly dismisses it as her wild imagination getting the best of her.

Come daylight, Clementine finally gets her big break when she is thrown head first into a murder investigation she has no business being in. When a knock at Nan's door the following morning features Detective Teddy Rhodes, proving it wasn't just her imagination, Clementine is shocked to find Nan's new neighbor dead just outside, the body surrounded with the printed pages of what was meant to be her next book.

After they discover that someone has taken her very own writing and turned it to a real-life murder mystery, the pressure is on as she quickly has to learn to write how this story ends.
