A prodigy in his early years, leaving home to wander afar, years of unfulfilled pursuits, presenting literary works to seek an official post, serving in the Hanlin Academy, meeting Du Fu, joining the shogunate during the An-Shi Rebellion, and ending his life with poetic songs... Li Bai's life is both legend and imbued with the fireworks of the mundane. Between romantic and free-spiritedness,frustration and depression, dreams of title and achievements and yearnings for immortality, Li Bai contemplated the essence of life. His profound insight into the nature of individual existence brought him immense psychological anxiety while also infusing his life with tremendous vitality.

This book approaches from the perspective of philosophy of Life, using Li Bai's outlook on life as a thread to connect the poet's important works throughout his lifetime. Through close textual readings, it restores a Li Bai of flesh and spirit-a living Li Bai who was both a genius poet and an ordinary mortal. It offers a new perspective for understanding the essence of Li Bai as a person and the depth of his poetry.
