In This Together

You do not have to walk this road alone. The dissertation is one of the most demanding journeys a person can undertake. And yet, for most doctoral candidates, it is also one of the loneliest. There are resources to support them academically; however, the spiritual aspect of the journey is often neglected. In This Together was written to support the spiritual aspect of the doctoral journey for the doctoral candidate and the professor. This unique 200-day devotional speaks directly to two audiences who share the same road: doctoral candidates navigating the long and winding dissertation process, and the professors who walk alongside them to help light their path. Organized around the five chapters of the dissertation itself, each devotion pairs Scripture with honest, warm reflection on the intersection of faith and academic life from the perspective of both current doctoral candidates and current professors. Every entry closes with an encouraging personal word and a prayer written specifically for the scholar and for the mentor, meeting each reader exactly where they are. Written by Dr. Bunnie Claxton with over 100 contributing authors, including professors, doctoral graduates, and doctoral candidates. Whether you are facing a blank page at midnight, sitting across the table from a struggling student, or simply trying to hold onto your sense of calling in the middle of an overwhelming season, this book was written for you. You do not have to walk this road alone. You never did. "I recommend it without hesitation to every candidate and every professor who walks alongside them. Keep it on your desk. You will return to it often." Dr. Steve Peterson, President, Bluefield University
