I thought that giving up alcohol would be the hardest part of going to rehab. My God, I was wrong. I didn't know hard work until I had to live with thirty recovering addicts.
Sharing a house with a bunch of weird and wonderful people after years of living alone is quite a challenge, and leaving a life of chaos for strict rules, structured days and demanding group therapy is no picnic either - it's like being back at school but without home time at the end of the day. At least there are positives. I have a new best friend - an emotionally unavailable cat - and plenty of time for soul-searching to figure out what got me here and what I have to do to face my demons. I can eat as many Tunnock's teacakes as I like, too. There can't be any harm in replacing alcohol with sugar, can there? Maybe this is just the wake-up call I need - and I'm not just talking about the person banging on my door every morning at 7am sharp.

In this intimate diary from rehab, the author's often humorous, sometimes painful observations are an engaging read for anyone who has faced, or is curious about, addiction and recovery. There are friendships, conflicts, surprises, and even a touch of romance - enough to captivate any reader.

"An honest, personal and hopeful reflection on life inside rehab.
"The first-person perspective makes you feel like you are part of the journey, with the light-hearted moments of success balanced with the pitfalls and challenges of recovery. The fellow patients are the supporting characters of the narrative, each illustrating different addiction histories, personalities and responses to the rehab process. The writing style is direct and easy to follow, which kept my focus on the experience and characters.
"I recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the rehab experience, particularly people experiencing addiction or with loved ones going through recovery."
