Mama cat is a fun picture storybook to help your child read their first words. It is written with three-letter and four-letter words, in all capital letters. The book pairs small words with pictures to teach a child to read their first words. In this method, you show the child small words with related pictures for visual cues and then read the words aloud using phonics.
How to read this book to a child:
The last word in each sentence matches the picture on the page. On the second read, sound out the word using phonics, point at the picture, then pause and let your child say the word. When you reach the end of the book, help them with the tracing exercise.
After a few weeks of reading together, your child will be able to read at least two words on their own - "Mama" and "Cat." And one day, not far off, this will be the very first book they read cover to cover all by themselves!
