This volume addresses the current climate of toxic masculinity in game cultures, offering theoretical insights and practical, critical analyses of the relationships between games and masculinity to better enable productive interventions into this area of popular culture. Unlike much of the research and public discourse that put the onus of "fixing" games and game culture on those at its margins - women, LGBTQ, and people of color - this book turns attention to men and masculinities. This volume examines how many of the critical issues in contemporary studies of masculinity - patriarchy, technology, parenting, homoeroticism, professionalization, fan cultures, and militarism - intersect with digital games, the various contexts and practices for their play, and the social futures associated with sustained involvement in gaming culture.
