McEwan Street is a companion collection to Vintage Honeymoon - eleven vignettes about the community of Clare, Michigan that received two time-displaced newlyweds during the Great Depression. Each piece illuminates a character from the larger story: Lyle the antique custodian, Lawrence the pawnbroker who hears objects weep, Edith the sharecropper's daughter who became a mayor's wife, Henry the projectionist who found his voice the night Greta Garbo found hers, Robert the precise draftsman who measured the world by a hair, Russell the reverend's son who tended his speakeasy congregation, Nelson and Hilda whose love story began with a sackcloth doll named Charlotte, Gertrude the seamstress who saw what things could become, Burke the bouncing boy who found his instrument, and Gladys the goldfish who saw everything clearly through the glass wall.
Together they build the street. Separately each piece stands alone.
