The life stories of courageous Black Mississippians to defy intimidation, violence, and death to gain justice and equality in the courts, in education, job opportunities, and the right to vote have been well documented. Less well documented are the actions of an exceptional minority of white Mississippians who championed racial justice and equality for Black Mississippians in the courts, in educational opportunity, in job opportunities, and the right to vote. Undeterred by family opposition, charges they were traitors to Mississippi values, the coercion of the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission and the Citizens' Council, intimidation and threats from the Ku Klux Klan, this exceptional minority persevered in supporting racial justice for Black Mississippians.
