Nomadic archivist Cali Rhodes arrives in sweltering Phoenix, Arizona, with a clear directive: digitize the legendary "Copleigh Collection" of Hopi Kachina dolls before a multi-million dollar auction. It should be a quiet job in a climate-controlled lab, but the desert has other plans.

When the collection's broker is found dead in the Botanical Garden-the victim of a mysterious "snakebite" that leaves no tracks-Cali suspects the venom didn't come from a reptile. Teaming up with rugged landscape architect Alfonse DiFranco, Cali uses her high-tech scanning equipment to peel back the layers of paint and provenance.+3
