Can a person who has truly been saved ever become unsaved?

This final volume begins with agreement: God keeps His own. Eternal security is biblical. The disagreement concerns the scaffolding Calvinism builds beneath that promise-unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and a lifelong performance test called perseverance.

The result is assurance grounded in God's completed acts at faith rather than in access to a hidden decree or in a believer's ability to prove lifelong perseverance.

Security is proved. What is presumed is that security must rest on the other four Calvinist points. Everyone who believes is regenerated, justified, adopted, indwelt, and held by God. The promise is permanent because of what He does-not because saving faith had to be selectively and irresistibly caused.
