Proverbs

The Book of Proverbs speaks directly into the ordinary decisions of life. It addresses our words, relationships, work, money, attitudes, choices, responsibilities and character, while placing every part of life under the wisdom of God.

In this volume of the DISCOVER THE BOOK series, Ambrose Fletcher explores the purpose, structure, themes and message of Proverbs in a clear and accessible way. The book considers the fear of the LORD as the foundation of wisdom, the contrast between wisdom and folly, the importance of teachability, the power of speech, the responsibilities of work and stewardship, and the call to justice, faithfulness and self-control.

It also examines the key people and settings within Proverbs, explores difficult questions raised by the text, and shows how the book fits within the wider biblical story and points towards Jesus Christ, the wisdom of God.

Proverbs does not offer a collection of simple formulas for an easy life. It teaches readers how to grow in discernment, receive correction and live faithfully before God.

Whether you are studying Proverbs for the first time or returning to familiar passages with fresh questions, this book will help you understand its message and apply its wisdom to everyday Christian life.
