Being a private investigator on a murder investigation isn't easy. But it's even harder when you have to work with your biggest rival.

Abby Lewis has dedicated all her time to her private investigation firm, but it's still not enough to impress her dad, the police chief. She's burnt out and too stubborn to quit, though she knows something needs to change.

Kole Richards joined the local police force after leaving the military and worked his way up the ranks to detective. He's learned to hide everything, including his trauma from his last tour overseas, behind a smile, but there's something about Abby that makes him want to drop his guard. 

When one of Abby's clients is murdered, Abby is thrown into the investigation. This is her chance to prove to her father that she's an exceptional detective, even without the badge. The reward money the client's family is offering doesn't hurt either. The problem? Kole has also been assigned to work this case. As their paths cross while they race to catch a killer-and teach Abby how to not be a workaholic-they have to confront the truth: maybe the murderer isn't the only thing they've been searching for.
