What do you mean saved but not set free?
As I considered the title of this book,
"Saved, But Not Set Free," I asked God for guidance
in conveying this message clearly and succinctly.
The Lord gave me a vision of the Israelites' exodus
from slavery, a fitting metaphor for our journey today
as we strive for the promise of salvation.
Like the Israelites, we, too, must trust in God for our deliverance
and overcome obstacles as we contend for our faith.
When the children of Israel were delivered out of Egypt by Moses,
they were physically set free, but they were still slaves mentally.
The shock of being on their own after hundreds of years of captivity
caused them to suffer a type of withdrawal, and many times,
when things got hard, they desired to return to the familiar
bondage of slavery. Being redeemed from slavery is only the first step in our journey;
escaping the slave mentality is another matter.
The three stages of being set free are
"An acceptance that whom the son sets free is truly free,"
"Overcoming the temptation of the flesh that would
draw us back into slavery,"
and "Conquering the enemies that stand in the way
of your freedom, starting with that most formidable
enemy, SELF."
