Street rats Tristan and Asix are used to doing whatever it takes to survive, including stealing. When caught with a priceless gem, they're sentenced to life as slaves in the royal navy, under the watchful gaze of Prince Corvin Shari-a powerful blood mage known for his sadistic nature. Tristan has every reason to despise their new master, yet he can't seem to stay away. Drawn to the prince's darkness, he finds himself slipping further and further under Corvin's control. Somehow, some way, Asix must figure out a way to end their enslavement before he loses Tristan for good.

Across the sea, Prince Lowen Hade is conscripted into his father's royal navy. His first mission: help Prince Corvin track a rogue pirate who's taken hostage a valuable and mysterious girl. Rumors say the girl can ruin Lowen's family, but he doesn't know how. As he works to unravel the mystery, he finds himself thrust into a hidden world of monsters and gods lurking just beneath the water's surface-yet the greatest monster of them all may prove to be Corvin himself. Lowen knows better than to get involved in politics, but the closer he grows to Asix and Tristan, the more he wants to save them.
