The focus is upon fine melody in the popular tradition, memorable words and a wide range of emotions to enrich church worship.

I have frequently been asked whether the RSCM could provide a collection of the best words and music in the worship-song repertoire. This book is an attempt to satisfy this request.

But it is more than that. Without adding musical ideas which are alien to the melodies, we have provided material for choirs and instruments which enriches without detracting from the essential popular appeal of the original songs. We have also provided in some instances keyboard accompaniments which those without improvisational skills will find lie under the hands in a more friendly way.
