Soup & Sweet: Food, Fellowship and Community Engagement, examines the role of shared meals as a catalyst for social connection, mutual care, and community participation. Drawing on perspectives from community studies, theology, and social practice, the book examines how food-based gatherings can cultivate inclusive spaces for dialogue, belonging, and collective action. It traces the emergence of the Soup & Sweet outreach programme within a local congregation in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and its continuity through successive institutional unions and structural transitions. Despite these changes, Soup & Sweet has remained a consistent missional expression of the congregation, illustrating how adaptive, place-based initiatives can sustain meaningful community engagement and relational ministry over time. This work offers scholars, practitioners, and community leaders a thoughtful framework for understanding food as a medium of fellowship and meaningful engagement.
