The whole of Criminal Liability as the SRA examines it - every line of the assessment specification on its own revision sheet.
This is not a textbook. It is a deck of revision sheets for candidates who already have common law training and who need to cover the examinable ground completely, quickly and without padding - in the weeks before the assessment. This volume covers criminal liability from the definition of a criminal offence and its elements, through the specified offences listed in the SRA specification, the principles of parties and accessorial liability, inchoate offences, general defences and partial defences.
Every line of the specification. Nothing invented or left out.
The volume follows the SRA's FLK2 assessment specification exactly. Every chapter and heading reproduces the specification's own wording, down to its individual bullet points, so you can work through the book side by side with the official document. Where a heading is set smaller and in italic, it is ours rather than the SRA's - a further subdivision made only to keep a long topic in digestible sheets.
Current for the January 2027 sitting.
Follows the assessment specification in force from 1 September 2026, and states the law as at 11 September 2026 - the SRA's own examinable law and practice cut-off date for the January 2027 assessment. Every figure, time limit and citation has been checked against the primary source.
Written for single-best-answer questions.
Each sheet leads with the figures - the maximum sentences, the elements of each specified offence, the distinctions between different forms of mens rea, the differences between inchoate offences and attempts, the requirement of specific or basic intent - because that is what the answer options turn on. Confusable rules are set out side by side, because a distractor is almost always built from the neighbouring offence or doctrine: recklessness against negligence, murder against manslaughter, assault against battery, attempt against preparation, duress against necessity. And where a rule exists for a reason the examiner tests, the sheet gives that reasoning too.
Ethics where it actually arises.
The SRA does not examine ethics as a subject area. It examines it pervasively, inside the same client-based scenarios as the substantive law. This volume carries the conduct trigger as it arises in Criminal Liability and points to the dedicated Ethics and Professional Conduct volume, where each rule is stated once, in full. Nothing is stated twice.
The complete series.
FLK1: Business Law and Practice · Dispute Resolution · Contract Law · Tort · Legal System · Legal Services
FLK2: Property Law and Practice · Wills and the Administration of Estates · Solicitors Accounts · Land Law · Trusts Law · Criminal Liability · Criminal Law and Practice
Both halves: Ethics and Professional Conduct
Then test it under examination conditions.
Knowing the law and applying it against the clock are two different skills, and SQE1 tests the second. The companion QuickPass SQE1 Mock Exams series supplies 40 complete mock papers across FLK1 and FLK2, in eight volumes, each with a full answer key and explained answers, written to the length, language and difficulty of the real assessment.
