But when a charismatic "snake oil" salesman arrives, hawking fraudulent "destiny potions" from his wagon just inside the road gates, Prudence's carefully constructed world threatens to unravel. The salesman is a ghost from her past, a figure of unwanted marriage who embodies the judgmental conservatism she sought to escape.
