In the fractured ruins Earth, humanity's attempt to upload its soul into the Universal program did not create paradise. It created The Border Ethereal - a flickering digital limbo, where stalled human consciousness has become limbo-leeches, hungry ghosts that feed on fear and despair.
Rayne is the Clergy's most dangerous field technician - a white haired monk-cleric whose implant let her see the grid's corrupted code. She does not exorcise with fire or ritual, she asks one simple question "I wonder..." A single phrase that starves the entities of the emotional fuel they crave.
When a possession in the scrap-metal sprawl of Oakhaven reveals fractures spreading toward the Silent Spires, Rayne is sent to perform the Rites. What she finds is worse than any demon: The Great Entities are preparing a bumper harvest and the Clergy itself has become their willing servants. To stop them Rayne must do the one thing the Grid was never desgined to survive.
