In a world where power moves in shadows and clandestine organizations operate beyond the knowledge of governments, one such entity, Scriptus, rises to influence global events from the background. Enter Tess Metron, once a loyal operative of Scriptus, tasked with weeding out threats and ensuring the organization's iron-fisted stability. Over time, Tess begins to question her role, her morality, and the true nature of the empire she serves.
Her misgivings intensify when a rogue operative named Dane Rhaevenor hints that Scriptus is hiding far darker secrets than Tess ever imagined. Resolute in her suspicion and with a growing sense of disillusionment, Tess embarks on missions that inadvertently reveal the rot within Scriptus. Meanwhile, a wildcard named Patty McGuinness, a former CIA operative turned mercenary, repeatedly crosses paths with Tess. With each encounter, Tess's faith in Scriptus continues to erode.
Tess gathers support in the unlikeliest of places. Jennifer Procter and Kenmar Gamble are recruits she is forced to train, initially with skepticism, but they soon prove loyal to Tess rather than to Scriptus's shadowy leadership. The trio's bond strengthens through missions fraught with peril, betrayals, and revelations about the extent of Scriptus's global reach.
When the covert splinter faction Nyx Corp emerges, led by ex-Scriptus operative Grant Locklear, Tess sees the corruption is even more extensive than she feared. After thwarting Locklear's attempt to seize nuclear materials and undermine Scriptus from another angle, Tess realizes the threat to herself is overwhelming: not only does Scriptus view her as expendable, but other clandestine powers seek to eliminate her or use her.
In a bold pivot, Tess leverages incriminating data (the so-called "kill list") that could topple Scriptus. She aligns with the CIA, led by liaison Damien Carter, who offers Tess and her team a deal: Provide the intel to dismantle Scriptus in exchange for conditional immunity. Though Tess suspects the CIA has its own agenda, she accepts, the alternative is certain death and the triumph of Scriptus's tyranny.
