The volume assembles nine contributions illustrating the specifically "Antiochene" approach to interpreting the book of Genesis, the peculiarity of which has occasionally faced wholesale denial in current research. After a general introduction on the Antiochene method in general and the possibilty of reconstructing its most important lost contributions from secondary sources, there are four general case studies on peculiar exegetical problems, two on the "Spirit of God" in Gen 1,2, and two others on the role of Adam and the image of God, all of them taking into account a broader "Antiochene" context including possible Jewish influence. The four remaining contributions focus on Theodore of Mopsuestia and his Genesis-commentary, two of them in a dogmatical, one of them in a methodological and the final one in a philological perspective. All in all, these contributions illustrate the typically "Antiochene" conception of 'salvation historism' which - from a Christian perspective - accounts for the historical limitations and ambiguities in the Old Testament by recurring to a pedagogical conception of divine revelation activity which has the Old Testament-Creator disclosing himself only gradually as identical with the New Testament-Saviour.
