Sam and his garden friends have worked hard all spring, all summer, and all fall - and this year is the biggest harvest yet. This year they planted something special: heirloom varieties, old seeds passed down through families for generations, grown for flavor and color and history.
But twenty-five vegetables and ten fruits are far too much for one boy and five little friends to harvest alone. So Sam calls a meeting, and together they recruit ten helpers - two raccoons, a fast squirrel, a groundhog working off her community service, her two pups, and five more new friends. After two days of training in gentle hands and clever systems, harvest week begins - and half the crops go to market while the other half goes to the local food bank.
Then, just a few days before Thanksgiving, Sam invites every worker to the farm for a big Thanksgiving feast. There is only one problem: Pops needs a turkey for the dinner, and the animals have other ideas. What follows is a chase through the forest, a very big turkey named Tom, a prayer before dinner, baskets of thanks, a letter from the food bank, and a pumpkin patch planted in memory of a legend.
A warm, funny, big-hearted Thanksgiving story about hard work, sharing, gratitude, and the friends who feel like family.
