The Kestrel Veil Incident

The frontier was never empty.

Fresh from the Unified Fleet Authority Academy, Captain Calder Venn receives his first command: the ISV Kestrel Veil, a small Fleet scout ship sent to survey the edge of explored space.

It should be a routine assignment.

Then the Kestrel Veil detects a signal where no human ship should be.

Following it leads Calder and his crew beyond established charts and to evidence of an advanced civilization operating outside human space. They don't know who built what they've found, what they want, or how long they've known humanity was there.

And the Kestrel Veil is alone.

Calder has a scout ship, a small crew, and protocols written for exploration - not first contact. Every decision matters. Approach too aggressively and they could start a conflict. Retreat too quickly and humanity may lose its first chance to understand what is waiting beyond its borders.
