The Regenerative Homestead

This book is born from lived experience: the transformation of both a life and a degraded piece of land into a regenerative, self-sufficient project. Oli, a permaculture designer and regenerative lifestyle content creator, shares his personal journey from a childhood deeply connected to nature, through years of disconnection, searching, and learning, to the regeneration of a former orange monoculture into a living laboratory for an off-grid, regenerative lifestyle.Rather than a technical manual or step-by-step guide, this book is an invitation to rethink how we relate to land, natural systems, and ourselves. Through observation, trial and error, and direct learning from the land, the author shows that regeneration does not begin with techniques, but with a different way of seeing, listening, and responding. The reader follows Oli as he learns to understand soil as a living system, water as an ally, biodiversity as the foundation of resilience, and time as an essential design element. Topics such as regenerative agriculture, permaculture, self-sufficiency, living systems design, and climate adaptation are explored through a grounded, honest lens, without idealisation or quick fixes. One of the book’s distinguishing qualities is its inclusive approach. It is not written solely for people who already live rurally or own land. Instead, it demonstrates how regenerative principles can be applied in any context — from gardens and small plots to balconies, urban spaces, and even everyday life decisions.Regeneration is presented as a gradual, imperfect process rooted in observation, patience, and continual learning. This book offers a calm alternative to urgency, over-productivity, and extractive thinking. It speaks to those who dream of a more connected, resilient way of living but are unsure where to begin. Blending personal story, reflection, and practical insight, it invites readers to reconnect with the land and to build, step by step, a more conscious and regenerative way of life.
