This book is designed to be both entertaining and educational. The characters, lifestyles, and language depicted are authentic - albeit fictional - but many of the locations are absolutely real, and there is a map at the front of the book to help you navigate the storyline.

Words that may be unfamiliar to young readers, non-surfers, or to those from outside Australia, have been printed in bold when they first appear, with explanations supplied in an alphabetically arranged glossary at the end of the book.

Though primarily of interest to pre-teen and young teenage surf-lifesavers, we are confident that those who have never seen the sea - and adults too - will enjoy these stories, and of course we encourage the experience of "reading together" as you "dive right in" and see if you can "fathom" the enigma that is Jonny B.
