The System Kid

I was removed from home because my mother wasn't able to care for us properly, they told my mother that they could help her by raising me in their kind, loving system. They promised to take care of me. They said that because I was abused while living at home that I would be given a child therapist to help me deal with the trauma I had already lived at home. They said that I was entitled to a proper public education and that I would be educated. They promised that they could raise me into a happy, healthy adult. They said that I would be safe in their system.I am telling you my story because everything they promised to do for me, they forgot to do. I was just a number in their system and they forgot about me somehow. I fell through their cracks.Then one day, a lifetime later, I heard about a 7 year old little Granby Quebec girl who had a big file with The Quebec Youth Protection System regarding complaints about the abuse she was living at home. She had been rescued from a closet, badly beaten and was rushed to the emergency room but she died the next day in the hospital from the abuse. I was shocked and surprised to hear that the system I was raised in was still running. I thought to myself, "Hmmm The Quebec Youth protection System was still alive?" I hadn't thought about that system since I left it in my nightmares at 15 years old. Originally I thought that it was only me they forgot about. I was raised to believe that something was wrong directly with me. That I was the problem.I started to get curious about my own childhood in the system, I started asking myself some serious questions. What happened to my life? Why did I do what I had done? Why was I so bad? Why did I spend the majority of my life locked up in Government Systems? What was wrong with me?Then, I started to look for old system kids I was raised with, one after another they started surfacing. I asked them about their lives, I quickly learned that it wasn't only me who had lived Hell here on earth. There are thousands of us old system kids who were raised in the system that have lived a nightmare since we last saw each other all those years ago.That little 7 year old girl shook me up badly. I decided to tell you my story in hopes of stopping the system from destroying anymore children's lives.
