And they inhabit a space where conventional perspectives have become lost. The painted building modules-whether lined up in a shelving unit or occurring before the darkness of a inky black surface-form a kind of magical locality that can be entered with the eyes, but barely described in words. This catalogue brings together a large selection of these unique works, created in the period between 2009 and 2016. In its extensiveness, the monograph forms a stage for encountering Schade's backdrop-like paintings and wandering through their spaces of illusion.
