What does it actually mean to say that humanity fell-and how far does that fall reach?

Calvinism answers with total depravity: sinners are dead, blind, enslaved, hostile to God, and unable to come to Christ on their own. This book does not soften those texts. It examines them at full strength.

But a second question changes the whole debate: what happens when God speaks through the gospel, carried by the Spirit? Does Scripture teach that the hearer remains unable until a secret, selective act of regeneration makes faith inevitable? Or has the system taken a true diagnosis and attached a remedy the text never states?

Across thirty-five focused chapters, Samuel D. Thomas Sr. tests the major proof texts, the biblical images of death and slavery, original sin, the order of faith and regeneration, and the claim that faith must be a meritorious work unless God irresistibly causes it.

The conclusion is direct: no sinner comes alone. Grace moves first. Yet Scripture's commands, warnings, invitations, and accounts of resistance show that the gospel is a real divine address to a ruined person-not an announcement to someone who remains unable even while God calls.
