We are living in a generation unlike any before it.
Never in human history have young people had such immediate access to information, entertainment, communication, and influence. With a single device, entire worlds can be entered within seconds. Opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection now sit in the palm of the hand. Yet alongside these advancements, another reality quietly grows, and these are distraction, anxiety, loneliness, comparison, confusion, and emotional exhaustion.
Many young people are constantly connected, yet internally disconnected. They are surrounded by voices, yet unsure who they truly are. They scroll endlessly for meaning while struggling to sit quietly with themselves, with others, or even with God.
This book was born out of that tension. As a pastor, teacher, and leader working closely with young people and families, I have witnessed both the incredible benefits and the painful consequences of digital culture. I have seen gifted youths lose confidence through comparison, believers struggle to focus in prayer, friendships reduced to online interaction, and identity shaped more by algorithms than by truth. I have also seen how silence, community, Scripture, and intentional boundaries can restore clarity, peace, and spiritual depth.
Unplugged is not an attack on technology. Technology itself is not the enemy. The deeper concern is what happens when constant connectivity begins to shape our minds more than wisdom, our desires more than discipleship, and our identity more than the voice of God.
This book is therefore an invitation and not to fear the modern world, but to live wisely within it.
Subsequently, it is an invitation to slow down.
