Woman Warrior

During the 1930's, small town girl, Evelyn Sharp, pushed past cultural barriers in local school sports and became the youngest woman aviator in Nebraska history. Evelyn Sharp pushed past cultural restrictions and the opinions of others no matter how many doubted her abilities. Difficulties or failures did not control her life.

During her lifetime, a female's role in life was drastically limited. Dreams of young women and girls remained unattainable and unfulfilled. Women were unable to gain medical degrees, manage corporations, or operate rockets in space. However stereotypical restrictions or cultural barriers could not deter Evelyn Sharp.

Not only did the small-town girl achieved a record making career in aviation such as the young woman in America to earn a pilot's license but as the first female air mail carrier in Nebraska.

Her exuberance and optimism propelled her upward into the clouds. She joined the famed Ninety-Nines Aviation Club with Amelia Earhart and Jacqueline Cochran. They changed the stigma of women fliers and created history in World War II by flying prototype planes and flying airplanes from factories to military bases.

Her life was ended too soon in the line of duty for the United States' air force. The airfield in Ord, Nebraska is named after Evelyn Sharp, no ordinary woman.

 Now women can gain medical degrees, manage corporations, or operate rockets in space due to Evelyn's bravery.
