Your Hundredfold Voice

This volume anthologizes and showcases Uruguayan writer Laura Chalar's work as a translator over many years. Working with poems in her mother tongue, Spanish, as well as in French, Italian and Portuguese, Chalar has produced a unique output that brings a whole universe of voices -many of them practically unknown in English- to the English-language reader. This varied and striking body of translations helps to remind us that, in the words of Peruvian novelist Ciro Alegría, "the world is wide and foreign" - and often joyfully so.
