As Spinal Tap embark on a tour of America to promote their new album 'Smell the Glove', film-maker Marty DiBergi (Reiner) accompanies them to capture the experience. He explores their history, including the mysterious deaths of several of their previous drummers, but when the album fails to sell, tensions rise between the band and their manager.
